Mooncor’s Muskwa/Duvernay Play Heating up |
The Duvernay is a Devonian shale that is equivalent to the Muskwa. When you extend the Muskwa around the south lobe of the Peace River Arch, the naming convention changes. The Duvernay is the Muskwa equivalent. It has roughly the same thickness as the Muskwa Mooncor has on its Hamburg lands. The organic rich Duvernay is at the base of the Ireton which is equivalent to the Fort Simpson shale overlying Mooncor’s Muskwa zone.
This bodes well for Mooncor's Muskwa/Duvernay/Horn River Muskwa shale gas play. Mooncor eagerly anticipates the next land sale in the general area to see if this upward price trend continues.

Mooncor’s land position in the area is north of the Peace River Arch. The recent land rush was south of the Peace River Arch, where land went for over $300/HA. Mooncor paid on average $28/HA for land in this play. Encana announced a new Alberta Duvernay/Horn River type shale gas play in Alberta and industry speculation is that the Duvernay buyer in the December 16, 2009 land sale may have been Encana. | |
